Tomorrow Nathan and I begin recording day two. I am so excited to record the song Lonely Hearts. The song is about my home town. Anyone who grew up I’m a small town can probably relate to it. Small towns have their benefits, no doubt about it. But when you’re young you just don’t know what to do with yourself. This song talks a bit about that.

This week Nathan recorded drums for the song we recorded last week. I can’t wait to hear them!

I’m going to try to record a video blog tomorrow but no promises.

Nathan is my engineer but he is also my drummer.  He laid down some sweet drums for this song.  I was able to record the main acoustic part and some banjo, along with the bass part and vocals.

I’m pumped to get this stuff out to all of you!

Christian music has never done it for me. I think it sucks mostly. There are a lot of worship songs out there that are great, but I don’t feel like listening to them day in and day out.

This went on for years… Occasionally I would hear about an artist and buy a track or two from iTunes. Sometimes I would even rip some tunes off… I know, that’s terrible. But I didn’t want to buy crap.

And then Spotify came along. I didn’t even know what the heck it was. I jumped on anyway and I couldn’t believe it! Free music?! Ad supported?! Big deal! Better than Pandora, better than iTunes, better than anything!

I opted for the premium account. I wanted to take the music with me.

I began to search out Spotify playlists. I was big into country (still am) so I was looking for something new. I found something old, which led me to something new. Whiskeytown led to Ryan Adams. Some how it all led to Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt and Jay Farrar… It led to Grace Potter, Avett Bros, Josh Ritter, Old Crow Medicine Show… Music was good again.

And now here I am… inspired… ready to write, ready to record a new EP of what I beleive to be my best work yet. And I could give all the credit to Spotify.

I could also give a lot of credit to Noisetrade for introducing me to artists like Green River Ordinance, Maddie Diaz, Carleton Stone, Katie Herzig and so many others.

Music is in my life again. Thanks Spotify. Thanks Noisetrade.

I am super pumped for this EP to come out. Just received word that we will probably begin recording in December. This is great news. Please enjoy this video of my song Be Not Alone.

Began recording the new EP, at least demos for reference and the like, last night.  Recorded with my good friends Nathan and Justin.  Can’t wait for this thing to be out, but I need to be patient.  I want it to sound great!
